If there’s one word I would use to describe the Spin class I just took at the only and only Peloton Cycle with Alex Toussaint, that would be it. Read on for the why.
A bit of background, before I get right to it: I am no stranger to grueling workouts, nor am I a novice when it comes to indoor cycling (a.k.a. spin). That being said, it has been 7.5 months (but who’s counting?) since I’ve taken an actual Spin class.
First, a bit on the studio. Peloton is located in Chelsea, and sets itself apart from other cycling studios by not only offering high-octane, in-studio classes, but also live streams of the aforementioned classes to all individuals who purchase a Peloton bike for home use, and a subscription. Peloton brings all that cycling goodness to the home, by live streaming each and every class. The studio itself is state-of-the-art, high tech, and offers all of the amenities you’d want in a Spin studio from the complimentary shoes, towels, and water, to the high-end beauty products that are stocked in the locker room. Malin and Goetz bath and hair care, anyone?
Now, the class. When I was invited to try master instructor Alex Toussaint’s class, I was super excited, to say the least. As soon as I clipped in and settled into the saddle, just a minute into the class, I knew that I was in for the kind of ride I’d been craving – one that would leave my legs and lungs burning. Alex’s energy was contagious, and his music selection boasted plenty of upbeat pop and hip hop for the 45 minute metrics ride. I normally have trouble hearing the instructor over the loud music, but Alex’s instructions came in loud and clear. His pushes throughout the workout kept up my intensity, and with the right mix of hills, cadence counts, and some well-timed splits, I had the variety I needed to keep me fully revved and into it the whole way through. I’m not going to lie, the class was intense, but I LOVED every second of it. I left feeling refreshed, energized, and pretty self-satisfied.
If you are fortunate enough to live in NYC, I highly recommend you visit the Peloton Studio and take Alex’s class. If you aren’t in the area, go ahead and research Peloton’s subscription program. I can assure you that you won’t regret it.
