Welcome to 2016, everyone! While New Year’s Resolutions may be in full swing, it’s important to think to not only the next few months of winter, but also the entire year. Here’s how to start the year on the right foot, and set habits that will keep you both happy and healthy in 2016!
Keep Up With the Fitness, or, Get in the Habit of Training Regularly
While it’s tempting to skip the gym when it’s cold and dark out, working out regularly won’t only make you look good, it will also make you feel good, too! Exercise is proven to boost serotonin, and other feel-good neurotransmitters. It’s tough getting out of bed in the morning, but think to the warm and fuzzy feelings you will have after a great workout. Keep your sneakers by your bed, set your alarm, throw on some kick-butt gym gear, and then get up and go. Don’t think, do – and your body will thank you!
Speaking of gym apparel that moves you, Raging Rhino never disappoints me. Functional and fun meets customizable, and the compliments don’t stop. I’m currently OBSESSED with Wonder Woman (of course), so imagine my delight in rocking a WW tank with my name on the back? A great motivator, to be sure!
Stick to a Healthy Diet, Rich in the Foods of the Season
While the holidays brought cookies and other treats into our repertoires, it’s important to note that the winter months also bring forth a bounty of fruits and veggies rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients. Pumpkin, butternut squash, brussel sprouts and oranges are plentiful and in-season this time of year, which means you should take advantage of these to get creative in the kitchen. As a rule, get familiar with what’s in season, and reap all the health benefits these foods bring about!
When you do indulge, be sure to get right back on track
Maintain Balance, in All Things
While sticking to a particular diet year-round is commendable, it’s also not realistic when placed in situations where you’re at a gathering, and food is the star of the show. For those instances when you do indulge, (and rightfully so!) be sure to get right back on track after. Don’t use a meal or day of indulgence as an excuse to veer of course, but instead enjoy the experience, and then get right back to your healthy eating habits immediately after. Enjoy life, but also maintain a sense of balance.
Year-round (and especially during those colder months, supplementation is super important. Despite your best efforts to eat the rainbow, you might not be getting all the nutrients you need to stay happy and healthy. New to me, HUM Nutrition‘s Red Hot Holidays and Cleanse to the Rescue sets have been keeping my waistline in, my energy up, and my internal systems in well-working order. High in the good stuff (potent, natural ingredients) and sans GMOs and Gluten, HUM is definitely worth looking into.
Stay on track this holiday season, and don’t fall victim to a long winter’s bulk!
