#MotivationalMondays with @FitBit And I’m Part of the Shape & Men’s Fitness Fitbit Blogger Challenge

Well folks, even though it has finally hit the 20 degree mark here in good ol’ New York City, I took my workout outside this morning. Why, you ask? As part of a #Fitfluential campaign, brought to me by FitBit, Shape, & Men’s Fitness Magazines, I have agreed to participate in the FitBit Blogger Challenge. In a classic rivalry of East Coast vs. West Coast, ten bloggers from each side of the US (twenty, in total) will be battling it out over the next four weeks, to see which coast is more active.

Each week we will be asked to complete a particular challenge, which brings us back to the aforementioned workout outside. Week One’s challenge was to take our workouts outside, and that is exactly what I did. Since I’m a bodybuilder, and intense weight lifting and high intensity interval cardio are par for the course, I decided to run through a simple weight circuit, followed by a quick bout of sprints around my gym’s very spacious parking lot. Funny enough, but I got my heart rate high and my blood pumping, until I couldn’t feel the cold at all.

In thirty minutes time, I completed 4×15 weighted lunges, 4×12 weighted squats, 4×8 bicep curls, and 10 minutes of HIIT sprints, moving quickly to keep my heart rate up. After all of that, I was happy to discover I’d already put in half of my daily steps requirement, ensuring I would go well and above my goal of 10k for the day.

Through it all, I kept an eye on my FitBit Charge, to monitor distance and steps taken (the deciding factor on which coast will win this challenge). I’ve had about a week to play with the Charge, and I like what I see so far. This wristband tracks steps, distance, calories burned, and steps climbed. It even tells me how much time I spend in restful sleep. Pretty snazzy, if I do say so myself!

    Let’s go EAST COAST! Great post, keep getting those steps so we can show everyone the EAST is the better coast (and fitter!) =)
