Wedding Beauty How-To : Old Hollywood Glam

By Lily Sage

Wedding season is officially in full swing! When planning your wedding makeup look it’s a good idea to look for inspiration everywhere. What are your favorite movies? Which female celebrity has a red-carpet style you absolutely love?  What type of theme do you want for your wedding?  These questions can help you decide if you want an Old Hollywood Glam Bride, A Sexy Bride, or a more Romantic and Ethereal bridal look.  This post is going to show you how to achieve an Old Hollywood Glam Bridal look that is sophisticated, versatile, and feminine.

Step 1: The Flawless Forties Complexion
Start by applying your favorite moisturizer and eye cream.  If you don’t normally use a foundation primer I would suggest using one on your wedding day. It will keep your makeup in place all day and keep you looking perfect after hours of kissing, dancing, and endless pictures.  I love Porefessional by Benefit.  A flawless complexion is a trademark of old Hollywood and can be achieved with Make Up For Ever HD liquid foundation, which will give amazing coverage and is long-wearing.  Apply your foundation with a foundation brush or a damp Beauty Blender sponge. To brighten under the eye apply Yves Saint Laurent’s Touché Eclat and then set the face with a translucent powder.

Step 2: Defined Eyes
Your eye look starts with defined brows. Fill in your natural brow shape with Anastasia Dipbrow. It is waterproof and will give you a full brow that will stand up to heat, sweat, and last minute wedding jitters.
Apply a small amount of eyeshadow primer all over the lid up to the brow bone. I recommend Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden for a smooth matte look.  Apply a soft nude eyeshadow that is close to the color of your skin from lash line to crease. Now it’s magic time with Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Creme Eyeshadow. This product should be called  “life-proof.” I have cried with it on and it has not moved! I apply it with a slanted eye liner brush close to the lash line. A good tip for creating a slight wing is draw your wing from the outside in.  Flick your liner inward and your wings will come out perfectly balanced. Apply your favorite mascara. I suggest Diorshow Blackout in Black.
Step 3: Lips
The perfect red lip is the finishing touch for this look.  Start by exfoliating gently exfoliating lips with a  gentle lip scrub. I always use the Bite Beauty Lip Scrub. It has cherry oil which is incredibly hydrating and nourishing.  Nars Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella is the perfect retro-glam red that is a liner and matte lip color in one.
This look is easy to do yourself and if you are hiring a makeup artist for your wedding it will be easy for him or her to translate it to your fit your look and wedding theme.  It can work all skin tones, and is equally appropriate for an afternoon wedding or evening wedding.  Stay tuned for more fun and fabulous wedding looks this month.
Stay Beautiful.
