Your Nighttime Recipe for Great Skin

Valentine's Day 2009 064

Not only a time for sleeping and dreaming, nighttime is also one of the most crucial windows for both skin health and repair. For that very reason, what you do with both face and body before you nod off into dreamland is super important to the appearance of your skin in the morning. Here, we discuss my tried and true three step skincare regimen for skin that is clearer, brighter, and healthier in the morning.

Cleanse

The first step to any great skincare routine is to rid the surface of oil, impurities, and other gunk it may have accrued as you have gone about your day.

Exfoliate

Once you have rid the surface of your skin of impurities, it’s time to scrub it until all of the residual gunk not picked up by general cleansing, and your dead, dull skin cells are gone. For the face, a fine particle scrub is best, as delicate skin can easily be torn up by harsher, large-bead scrubs. For the body, a loofah loaded with a coarser scrub is the way to go. Just be sure to rub wet skin in slow, circular motions, taking special care to scrub especially scaly areas like elbows and knees. As a bonus, freshly scrubbed skin is more open to the moisturization that comes with the final step!

Moisturize, Hydrate, and Moisturize Again

Last but most certainly not least, it is super important to restore skin’s moisture balance with an appropriately formulated moisturizer. Not only will you plump up your skin (diminishing the appearance of wrinkles!) with hydrating ingredients, but you will also be putting valuable nutrients back into the skin.
