The Evolution of My Skincare Routine

If there is one thing that’s certain, at least as far as my skincare routine is concerned, it’s that with age it has evolved, grown, flourished, and the like. As I have grown older, and my laundry list of skincare concerns (along with my knowledge database) grows longer, I find myself tweaking the routine, adding and subtracting as I see fit. Allow me to take you all on the journey I’ve been on.

In my teens, if I remembered to wash my face then it was a good day. To be perfectly honest, I took the skin I was in for granted, being blessed with a pretty clear, normal complexion. I didn’t wear SPF, I didn’t use any lotions or potions, and I didn’t engage in regular scrub sessions. Cue my early twenties, which changed the way I view the world, and the way that my skin felt.

In my early twenties, I went and started a blog. Hellooooo world of knowledge about skincare! The long and short of it is, going to various events touting the latest and greatest in the world of skincare opened my eyes to all that I have been missing. Not to mention, several machines showed me just how much damage I had done to my skin all those times I got burnt. I started slowly, with just some foaming cleansers from whichever brand I happened to be testing at the time used in conjunction with my trusty Clarisonic. From there, the new products started to trickle in. A La Prairie Skin Caviar Cream here, a L’Occitane Serum there.

This brings us to the here and now, where SPF, scrubs, serums, and masques have become a part of my daily vernacular. My morning begins with a liberal dousing of my beloved SPF-infused tinted moisturizer, while my evenings end with a gentle scrub, cleanser, serum, and moisturizer routine that has become second nature. Throughout it all though, I have to imagine how my routine will continue to evolve.

As I change, so too does my skincare routine. Ask me again in a year, and I’m sure my repertoire will be a whole other story!
