Well folks, I am happy to report that I am not only back in action, but back on top. Funny how something can be so ingrained in you, that even time off won’t dampen the drive to get myself into the best shape of my life.
Perhaps the most exciting (and surprising) thing to me was that despite my sporadic workouts, stress eating, and general not looking out for myself, that I did not gain any weight during my unfortunate fitness hiatus. This is a HUGE deal for me, since I was generally terrified of getting on that dreaded gym scale. It’s the little things that count, folks!
Another realization made is that I don’t need to be on a machine, sweating my butt off, huffing and puffing, in order to reap the benefits of exercise. This was proven during my gym hiatus, where my primary source of exercise was organizing, cleaning, and re-arranging my new apartment. Any activity is better than no activity at all, obviously.
Last, but most certainly not least, you don’t know what you have until you don’t have it anymore. The IT in this statement refers to caffeine in my system, or lack thereof this past week. To clarify, I was on a self-imposed ban of caffeine this past week, due to the fact that I had to fast for my holiday Fri-Sat. Knowing that caffeine withdrawal headaches are always my downfall during the fast, I made the decision to quit cold turkey. Sluggish, tired, and just downright exhausted, I trudged on about my daily routine, missing my daily pick-me-ups. If anything, I learned to appreciate the little things, like the buzz my daily cup of java brings me.
