Sunny days are here again, and with that, we must naturally begin an intense and somewhat philosophical discussion on the effects of increased exposure to sunshine, heat, and humidity on one’s own beauty routine. With changing seasons comes changing reasons for beautifying oneself. Naturally, we all need to adjust the way that we look at things.
The first thing that we all need to consider in our beauty routine is the rise in humidity. For those with normal (not too oily, not too dry) skin, navigating the summer with makeup intact is a challenge, but for the naturally oily it becomes nigh impossible. It is for that very reason that a primer (face and eye) becomes a beauty essential, and the oily gal’s bff.
My pick for the face is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, a face primer that smoothes imperfections, while ensuring that my foundation lasts all day, and then some. Conveniently, Veil is now available in a beauty-to-go size at your local Sephora store.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it again, no matter the season, sun protection is an absolute MUST. Coupling an SPF of 30, with tint, AND skincare benefits, Cover FX’s Skin Tint FX is quick and easy skin perfection. With it, my skin is left moisturized, flawless, protected, and with the subtlest of sun-kissed glows. My shade is E Light, by the way.
As for an eye primer, there are two in particular that put a twinkle in my eye. One, I have mentioned countless times is NARS Pro Prime, a primer that trumps even Urban Decay Primer Potion. The second, a new addition to the MAC lineup, is Prep and Prime Vibrancy Eye, a primer that not only ensures that eye products stay on, but that your undereye area is de-puffed, and ready for concealer.
With the increased presence of that great, hot yellow ball in the sky, we need to consider that while some of us will be blessed with a (hopefully safe!) tan, not all of us can be so lucky. In order for us pale gals to look a little bit less bland, a great bronzer becomes an essential. We are talking soft, blendable, warm (but not orange) color. Towards that goal, MAC’s newest Mineralized Skinfinish Natural does the job rather nicely. Part of the Bronzed to Perfection collection, this baked and pressed bronzing powder creates the most natural of “tans”.
Rising temperatures have a direct correlation with the rising occurrence of B.O (duh). Deodorant is an absolute necessity, obviously, and I am currently loving Clean’s Moisture Absorbent version. Long story short, it keeps stink and sweat at bay, and smells great. All in all, a handy addition to any summer beauty arsenal.
These are some of my summer beauty picks? How do you change your beauty routine to match the season?
