New Year, New Me, and Hair Paradise, Found at the Pas de Deux Salon

Pas de Deux Salon Review

Once upon a time, there was a young woman who dreamed of having rich, luscious, sexified hair. Treatment after treatment, salon after salon, she travelled both far in wide in her native city of New York in search of the perfect space to call (hair) home. Frizzled and frustrated, she had just about given up on having diva-worthy hair, until one day she stumbled upon the news of a brand new salon in the not so far off neighborhood of Tribeca. That brand new salon was called Pas de Deux.

The time is present day, and aforementioned young lady is no other than your intrepid beauty blogger on the scene, moi. Having neglected my locks for well over three months (I know, shame on me), it was time to take charge once more, and find a space that would do me right. Now I have been to many different salons, but none of them truly felt like home. With a laundry list of things that were WRONG with my hair, a general idea of what I wanted to accomplish, and the longing to find a space that just fit, I set out on a search for a great salon. What I found was hair nirvana, in the Pas de Deux Salon.

Pas de Deux is netled in the heart of Tribeca, slightly off the beaten beauty path. The space itself is GORGEOUS, like out of a storybook. Chic, whimsical, and modern all at once, Pas de Deux looks like a space you can settle in and immediately call home. The space is wide open, all done up in earthy tones of brown, green, and black. Chill tunes play overhead, while the talented team of stylists and colorists do their voodoo just right. Did I mention there is a chalkboard lined wall in the back, housing thought provoking quotes? I love the personal touches in the quotes and drawings (done in chalk) on the wall, and felt more than tempted to sneak in a doodle with the chalk nearby.

Stella, my stylist was seriously too cool for school. Skilled with the scissors, she gave me a perfectly mod blunt bang, long layers, and a flawless blowout. With only a couple of words from me, she knew exactly what I wanted and how to get there. I emerged from her chair with nary a hair out of place, which is truly something special. Did I mention Stella is in a band, and that she was rocking a fierce blunt bob and red lip?

Fumi, my makeup artist was as sweet as can be, and an absolute maven with a makeup brush. As soon as I sat down in her chair and spied a full arsenal of Becca Cosmetics (which she uses exclusively), and Koh Gen Doh makeup brushes, I knew I was in for a treat. Not only did she shape my brows to a perfect arch, but she also gave me a delicious purple (purple!) smoky eye, with flawless, radiant, luminous skin, with a peach lip on top. Being an artist, it is hard for me to put my face in someone else’s hands, but I will gladly let Fumi do my makeup any day of the week, so in love with my look was I.

Most importantly, I have to sing the praises of my AMAZING colorist Mindy. Mindy and I have a bit of a history, as she is responsible for so many of my hair colors p.b.b (pre beauty blogging). I knew that as soon as I sat down in Mindy’s chair, that I was destined for yet another legendary color experience, and I was completely right. With me wanting to kick it up a notch in the drama department, Mindy set me up with an intense, rich, deep dark cherry that is almost black. Mindy is blessed with an amazing intuition when it comes to hair color, and she always knows exactly what I want. Have I mentioned that I love her to pieces?

Color, cut, and makeup in place, I feel like an upgraded version of myself. As I sit here on this train typing this post, I just feel like a million bucks, and that feeling is magical.

The Pas de Deux salon might be brand new, but trust me when I say that it is destined for greatness. I cannot even begin to describe how utterly in love I am with the space, the people, and my brand new look. I entered that oasis looking frazzled, disheveled, and more than a little ragged, and left feeling like a glamorous, polished, proper movie star.
