When it comes to budget beauty, NYX is a brand that has gotten lots of love in, around, and throughout the beauty blogosphere. With a vast array of pigmented products at a teeny price point, NYX offers up a whole lot of bargain beauty love.
Let me preface this post by stating that I have had lots of experience with drugstore, and most of it has been lackluster at best. Fed up with crappy pigmentation, flimsy packaging, and less than ideal textures, I had just about given up on any brand that I couldn’t easily pick up at a Sephora or department store. Being cosmetically inclined however, I kept my eyes and ears on the ground so to speak, just to make sure I didn’t miss out on anything major. Boy, am I ever glad that I did, because if I had truly given up on drugstore, then I never would have discovered the joys of NYX.
My introduction to NYX comes by way of the Velvet Rope Shadow Palette, a new addition to the line featuring ten creamy shades of purple (glorious purple!) eye shadow in a variety of hues and finishes. From palest lilac to blackened plum, this palette offers up a plethora or purple-tastic options.
The shades themselves swatch true to color, with varying levels of sheen and pigment. The looks I have created with the palette withstood the tests of time and wear. While I won’t give up my favorites, I can confidently say that I will definitely be reaching for this palette when I am in need of a purple fix, which is pretty much all the time.
While I haven’t completely abandoned my drugstore hiatus, I will say that NYX has given me a reason to reconsider, and even to believe in at least some of the items found in those drugstore aisles. NYX in general, and the Velvet Rope Palette in particular, have captured both my heart, and my attention.
