Loreal Studio’s Newest Secret- The Perfecting Base

Ladies and gents of the beauty blogosphere, allow me to let you in on a little secret. This one is of the affordable cosmetic variety, and it comes to us as a brand new part of the L’Oréal Studio Secrets cosmetics lineup.

Magic Perfecting Base is part of the L’Oréal Professional Studio Secret’s line, and is a primer designed to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while minimizing pores and prepping the skin for foundation. A springy whipped gel, this primer feels thick when you scoop it out of the jar, but ultimately smooths down and over the skin leaving a satin finish that I am quite fond of. Thanks to a high silicone content, magic makes my skin feel silky and smooth. Foundation subsequently glides more easily across the smooth surface created.

While I do see a reduction in the appearance of fine lines when using this primer, Magic fell short of wowing me on the pore minimizing front. Not that I have super large pores to begin with, but I would have liked for them to disappear altogether. I am also not a fan of the scoop jar, but that might just be me nit-picking. I am a huge fan of airless pumps for foundation and primer.

I was a bit put off by the texture at first, but found that once applied the primer blends into the skin easily, and doesn’t feel heavy at all. My makeup lasted all day without melting, fading, or migrating.

Blended, you can see how well it has done its job to fill in fine lines on my hand. Click on the picture to make it bigger.

And in use, as seen in a recent fotd. My skin does in fact look smoother, though you can still see the pores on my cheek.

L’Oréal’s Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base is a good alternative to other, more expensive silicone based primers on the market. I won’t abandon my other beloved primers, but I can definitely appreciate the results and affordable price tag. The L’Oréal Studio Secret’s line is currently available at your local drugstore.

Silhouette, it definitely has a weird texture. Worth it though if you are a fan of primers. 😉

I think I remember Linda Evangelista describing this as "spackle for the face" which is kind of weird, but explains the texture. I haven't been wearing primer for a while as I'm only doing tinted moisturizer, but I used to swear by smashbox.

Scarlett, a very apt description. Smashbox is a great choice as well. 🙂

I bought this primer as well and I like how it makes foundation application glide on like butter but the downside of it is like you said, I didn't see the difference of minimizing my pores that I was hoping for. On the bright side, I loved how it made my foundation last all day.

Fab, glad I am not the only one of that opinion. Glad you like it for the last power
